As a photographer, Janice Hanson turned to watercolor to enhance the images she saw by emphasizing shapes and patterns. She uses paint to stain these shapes with color. She is a Signature Member in National Watercolor Society and Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Society, among others.
Denver artist, Patricia Mudge, spent many years working in water media before switching to oil. She has studied at the University of California San Diego, San Diego Watercolor Society, La Jolla Institute of Art and the Art Students League of Denver. Her subjects are as varied as her life experiences. She spent several years living in Great Britain and has travelled here and abroad for over forty years. The master studies included in the show were undertaken as part of her on-going desire to learn from the finest artists in the world.
Valli McDougle discovered a passion for painting rather late in life, however, “younger than Grandma Moses”, she says. She never dreamed she would find such joy and satisfaction in doing what she was meant to do. “Windows on the World”, her contemporary acrylic painting series, are layered texture and pattern, often incorporating line. Valli is drawn to large shapes and is enamored with color, particularly leaning towards a warmer palette. Her series also include “Pastiche” (small layered collages) and “Opus” (watercolor and mixed media). Valli is a signature member of National Watercolor Society, Colorado Watercolor Society, and International Society of Acrylic Painters, and her paintings have won awards in international and national juried exhibitions.
